Part of the reason I don’t begrudge people their religions is that the desire to fill up the gap between the Known and the Unknown is one of the defining characteristics of humans. We, as a species, don’t have ANY of the traditional “natural weapons”; we don’t have claws, or fangs… we have shitty senses, [...]

One (or more) of the following conclusions, following logically from the truth established by the Bible, seems to be necessarily true: 1) God is either arbitrary or unnecessary; 2) God lacks either omnipotence, omnicognizance, omnibenevolence or omniscience; 3) God is either dead or absent; or 4) the Bible was actually written/inspired by Satan.
Yes yes yes, take THAT, Gelly-san!
Friends, acquaintances, and people who clicked on a link a buddy of theirs sent them in a chain letter: lend me your ears! Admittedly, that last sentence there is a mouthful, and is likely to be interrupted with spurious cries of “nuh-uh!” (or your local equivalent; I’m paraphrasing here) before it can be successfully posited. Therefore, I choose to give a name to this philosophy, so that it may be introduced with the maximum of alacrity and a minimum of jackassus interruptus potential: I choose to call this the Sentient philosophy.
Just a quickie, then I gotta play some more: unlocking the Nazi Zombies! mode in Call of Duty: World at War (by completing the single-player campaign) is the best thing you can do with your spare time. If anyone (ANYONE) wants to play THAT particular game mode, just let me know. You’ll be doing your [...]
Capitalism contains a fairly efficient and fluid value system: a person, item or service is worth whatever demand for that person, item or service is willing to pay. Any particular commodity in our society is worth more than a comparable commodity if it possesses some quality that the prospective buyer finds useful. However, in our [...]
