Hell sudden froze over and then rapidly unfroze this morning in Paris as Diablo Mother Fucking 3 was announced. After a week of speculating on the mysterious image over at Blizzard’s site, first thinking it’s just an announcement for WoW: Wrath of the blah blah, then thinking it was Diablo 3, then thinking it was Starcraft 2 release date, THEN thinking it was Lost Viking 3, and FINALLY coming back to Starcraft 2, it was unveiled that Diablo 3 was in the works. And man, not just in the works but coming along nicely. The videos shown are of a game at least 5-10 years in (that’s a Blizzard 5-10). What I’m hoping, is they were waiting to announce until close to release. I don’t want to wait another 2 years from now to play it. The one year we’ve known about Starcraft 2 has been bad enough.
But to me, Diablo holds a deeper meaning. Sure, my playing of Monkey Island and Doom and such predate my playing Diablo. But Diablo (coupled with Quake 1) were the games that truely pulled me into the world of computer gaming. Not only that, but it was a game that my brother shower just as much love for as I did. Sure we had other games we both liked, but it wasn’t until Diablo that I saw the same passion in him I had in me for video games. If I wasn’t playing the game on our old p90 machine, he most assuredly was.
Speaking of that old p90. I found Diablo to run better when attempting to play the online mode than it did when playing single player. I never quite figured that one out.
Looking at the videos I was thinking, “God this is going to require an upgrade and a half.” Then I remember that even though Bliz has a problem with WoW patches, that they are good at exploiting low end machines. When I navigated to the character page, I noticed that the characters themselves are rather low poly. Which isn’t bad because the detail in the textures made up for it. They really just look like models from WoW with realistic painted textures instead of cartoony ones.
I really really cannot wait to play this game. I will be playing through the old ones soon to catch up on them. Anyone else with me?
For once, Jelly-san, I am right there with you. No, for SERIOUSLY this time. I know I have been quote right there with you unquote on quite a few games in recent memory (lessee, working backwards now… Warcraft 3 and FT, Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, WoW (though that was probably Phil), GTA, Smash Bros., WoW again, CoD4 off and on, Titan Quest, EVE, WoW YET again, Starcraft (don’t get any ideas), FFXI, you get the idea.) but THIS time I think it’ll work. Of course, Bad Company stands a very good chance of being the preemption game of choice at the moment, but two years IS quite a ways off. Oh yeah, and Spore. Dear GOD I’m gonna lose myself playing fucking Spore. At the present time I’m bouncing ADHD-esque between Sylpheed, Mana Khemia, The World Ends With You, Blazing Angels 2 and Fucking Pokemon Diamond for fuck’s sake… and I may not come down for quite a while. But, YES. DIABLO 3. HUZZAH.
On a related note, why is my comment on YOUR post longer than my LATEST post? (Note for the lax: I don’t actually HAVE a “latest post”, so a one-letter comment would technically qualify. I thought it was funny.) Shouldn’t I be putting the kind of effort exhibited here into original content of my very, very own? I blame GameFly, myself. Why they won’t let me have more than four games out at a time is beyond me.
Oh yeah, almost forgot: and until next time, you keep posting blog entries, and I’ll keep making fun of your punctuation and spelling. I mean, answer them. Preeeeeeow.
The funny thing is, Firefox underlines all “misspelled” words. But it underlined ever instance of Diablo, Starcraft and WoW, so I ignored it.
Oh and the Gauntlet thing is Phil’s fault. Now that he actually has GOOD internet, we should totally play. Also, you know you love GTA and should love Smash Bros.
Also Bad Company…. no… too sluggish.
